Town Board meeting called to order at 6:30pm

       1.   Minutes: 10/7/2024

1.1   Motion made by Rick Barton to approve the 10/7/2024 Minutes as presented.

1.2   Seconded by Laura Miller an approved.

  1. Budget Report: Budget Bill Fiscal Year 2025.

2.1   Introduce Budget Bill Fiscal Year 2025 for the Town of Augusta read by Title only 1st reading.

2.2   Clerk assigns Bill number 2024-06.

2.3   Bill 2024-06 read by Title only 2nd reading.

2.4   Motion made by Rick Barton to accept Bill 2024-06 as Ordinance 2024-06.

2.5   Seconded by Laura Miller and approved.

3.1   Motion made by Rick Barton to approve checks 12665 – 12701 as written.

3.2   Seconded by Laura Miller and approved.

  1. Collector’s Report:

4.1   Eff 10-15-2024 $7.81 September 2024 Collection.

  1. Public Works:

5.1   3 pallets arriving next week containing the Gazebo. John Ballman has had challenges with the installation of the support piers but all is coming together.

  1. A resident contacted Public Works with concerns of a dead tree with possibility of falling in her yard. This is on the Agenda.

6.1   170 Jackson St. annexed part of the property next to 168 Jackson St.

  1. Chamber of Commerce:

        7.1   Jodi Howell is working on event signs for the Christmas Walk. These event signs are for No Parking.

        7.2   Chamber is asking for volunteers for the Christmas Walk.

        7.3   Motion made by Rick Barton to approve up to $1000 for the event No Parking signs for the Christmas Walk.  

        7.4   Seconded by Randal Oaks and approved.

        7.5   Beerfest intake for the Chamber was $971.

        7.6   Chamber working on a new Wine Bottle tree.

  2. Museum Report:

9.1   Next Museum meeting will be held on 11/4 the 2nd Thursday of November.

12.1 Upcoming April 8th Election is getting close. There are 3 positions up for Election. Sign-up is Dec 10-31st. Qualifications are: Resident of the Town for at least 1yr, No Felony’s and current on Taxes. Sign-up will be at the Library.

  3. “Best of Augusta” Photo Contest for September

The winners are:

FIRST PLACE is the photo titled “Come ‘Rock’ in Augusta” by Marilyn Kluesner of Marthasville, MO.  Her prize was the $50.00 check offered by the Town Board.        RUNNER UP photo title is “Harmonie Gazebo” by Judy Harrison of Augusta, MO.  Her prize from Augusta Winery is a wine tasting for 10 with a charcuterie board.

Photos are on the Town website under Photo Contest/ Winners, on display in the Augusta Library and Augusta Winery, and printed in the November Boone Country Connection with the winning photos and an article.

KIDS’ “BEST OF AUGUSTA” PHOTO CONTEST from October is the process of being judged.

POSTCARD SALES:  We made a few more sales.  Pass the word along that they are at the Wandering Owl which is open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

        5.1   Motion made by Rick Barton to approve $1000 for asphalt purchase.

        5.2   Seconded by Ellen Knoernschild and approved.

        5.3   Motion made by Rick Barton to approve $5000 for tree removal at High St.

        5.4   Seconded by Ellen Knoernchild and approved.

        5.5   Post Office parking concern brought to the Town Boards attention that needs to be addressed.

6.     Zoning and Planning:

        6.1   L.U.P L2024-05 295 Lower St pavilion.

        6.2   High St drain issue at Mt Pleasant issue again that needs to be addressed.

7.     Chamber of Commerce:

        7.1   Update was given on the Christmas Walk.

        7.2   Motion made by Rick Barton to approve the street closure request for the Christmas Walk on Dec 6th & 13th. With the contingent of proper signage placement per submitted layout.

        7.3   Seconded by Ellen Knoernschild and approved

8.     Farm Report: No Report

9.     Museum Report:

        9.1   On October 10th the Museum will be working in the attic.

        9.2   On October 8th the “Tell It Like It Was” will be hosted by Fred Dressel.

10.   Tree Committee Report: No Report

11.   Old Business:

        11.1 Motion made by Rick Barton to approve, contingent upon MODOT concurrence, to accept the bid as presented by KJU Construction in the amount of $834,800 for the proposed sidewalk construction project.

        11.2 Seconded by Ellen Knoernschild and approved.

12.   New Business: No Report

13.   Open to Citizens:

        13.1 Pastor Sara Adler Dahlheimier gave updates for Ebenezer UCC Church.

        13.2 Chili Beef Dinner on Oct 20th from 11am-5:30pm

        13.3 Homemade doughnuts and snack on Oct 31st.

I am searching for a person familiar with Word Press to assist me with redesigning the town website.  

 “Best of Augusta” Photo Contest — The September contest is over.  Winners will be announced later this week on the town website and photos will be placed in the Augusta Library and at Augusta Winery.

The KIDS’ “BEST OF AUGUSTA” PHOTO CONTEST is going well.  Mrs. Sarah Bayless will be taking Augusta Elementary students on photo taking field trips.  ALL kids, 12 and under, are invited to enter the contest.  The main focus is photos about autumn.  All other photos will also be accepted.

5.4   We will be receiving bids for Sidewalk Grant in a few weeks.

5.5   Bluff Ct lights are being taken care of.

5.6   Permits for the Gazebo are in process.

5.7   Volunteers needed for the Gazebo installation.

Colors of autumn!  Harvest time!  Apple picking!  Pumpkins and gourds!  Fresh produce!  Mums! And so many other fall scenes from which to choose.  Then there are the activities:  sharing a glass of wine, or a mug of beer; riding a bicycle on the Katy Trail; roaming the quaint, peaceful Town of Augusta;  shopping at local stores; checking out the Augusta Harvest Festival the weekend of September 20-21; and whatever else catches your eye.

Take memorable photos to cherish the moments!  Composition quality is as important as picture clarity.  One standout distinction for an excellent photograph is whether or not someone desires to take a second glance, or a third.  Enter the best one from your collection of memories into the “Best of Augusta” Photo Contest.  Shoot pictures in the town limits of Augusta.  Tell a story.

One Prize from Augusta Winery:  A 90 minute guided tasting party of award winning wines for up to 10 people with a specially curated charcuterie board.
Another Prize from the Augusta Town Board:  $50.00 check

OCTOBER 2023 PRIZES for Kids 12 & under “Best of Augusta” Photo Contest  Deadline is October 31.

3 cash prizes from the Augusta Town Board:   1st place = $30.00,     2nd place = $25.00,     3rd place = $20.00

TOWN POSTCARDS

Postcards are at the printers.  There will be 4 prints available at the Harvest Festival on Saturday, September 21.  They will be sold with a special 4-pack  price including one of each of the 4 designs.  Additional individual postcards will also be available.  After their initial debut, the postcards will be sold at the Wandering Owl during regular weekend hours on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.  Come and check out the various postcards.

Once upon a time, postcards were last sold in Augusta in the 1970’s.  It’s time for sales once again.
